• Can I check stock before ordering?

  Our stock levels for all fabrics are shown on the fabric product detail page. Please bear in mind that we may have multiple rolls so the stock shown may not be in one piece.

  Our clearance fabrics are limited stock and once sold we usually cannot supply any further meterage, occasionally we can.

  Our regular lines will be ordered in if out of stock and most take approximately 3-6 working days for delivery.

• How do I order made to measure curtains, roman blinds, roller blinds or cushions online?

  Simply click here to begin ordering or get an instant quote.

• Will the fabric arrive rolled or folded?

  4m and under will be folded, any larger orders will be rolled. 

  All PVC fabrics and velvet fabrics will be sent rolled to avoid creasing.

• Why is my money debited from my account as soon as I place my order?

  Payments are made through sagepay for card payments or paypal/amazon pay depending on your chosen payment method. Money is deducted from your account as soon as you place your order and instruct payment to be taken. 

• How can I be sure that I have enough fabric for the whole project?

  We have some great measuring guides here including easy to follow videos. 

  On all of our fabrics we also have a fabric calculator tool which will calculate how much you need.

• Do you make all types of soft furnishings?

  Our local customers can benefit from an extensive made to measure offering. Visit one of our showrooms for more info.

  For those of your further afield we can make curtains, blinds, cushions, valances and seat pads.

  You can order curtains, blinds and cushions online on our website. For anything else please get in touch.

• What about shrinkage and fading?

  It is normal for washable fabrics to be subject to some degree of shrinkage, this can vary and is dependant on the type of fabric and the conditions it is used in. Unless stated we recommend to dry clean fabrics. Fading will occur naturally over time in most fabrics.

• How can I tell which fabrics are suitable for which make up purpose?

  Information about the suitability of the fabrics is stated in the 'Product Details' drop down on each fabric. You can also refine your fabric search by usage, for example curtains/blinds or upholstery.  

• Can you supply fabrics that are not on your website?

  Yes, we hold accounts with most of the UK's fabric brands and offer very competitive pricing. Simply fill in the form on this page.

• Do you stock all fabrics shown on the website in your showrooms?

  Although the showrooms stock a huge variety of fabrics, we cannot guarantee that all fabrics on our website are in stock in the showrooms. If you want to check a particular stock prior to visiting, then please call the showroom directly.

• How to see what fabrics are fire retardant for upholstery on the Just Fabrics website?

  When browsing fabrics you can filter via usage and then ' upholstery fire retardant', which displays all the relevant fabrics.

  We also put FR (fire retardant) after the name on any fabrics that are fire retardant.

  Any fabrics that aren't FR'd we can have treated to the relevant standard at an additional cost.

• What if I need my fabric to be fire retardant?

  Some of our fabrics are already treated and this will be mentioned in the description or extra info.

  Other fabrics can often be treated to either Domestic or Contract requirement for an extra fee. Please get in contact with us to find out more.

  Always check with your upholsterer first as they can advise you whether you need your fabric treated or if you can use a barrier cloth.

• Can you supply FR Certificates for fire retardant fabrics?

  We can supply FR Certificates for our FR fabrics that are part of our regular upholstery fire retardant lines, however we are not able to provide them for our FR clearance fabrics unfortunately. The clearance fabrics come in to us with all the FR labels to show they are FR treated however don't come with certifcates.

  Our FR fabrics are suitable for domestic use, not contract unless specified otherwise.

  We also offer a fire retardant treatment service where we can have any other of our fabrics treated to the relevant FR standard (Domestic or Contract) whether that be for curtains or upholstery. If this service is used we will supply an FR Certificate for you which will arrive separately from your fabric delivery via email. 

• If delivery is to a VAT free destination, how do I get the VAT off?

  This will automatically happen at checkout when you select a delivery destination (country) that is VAT exempt. It will show VAT at £0 at the order confirmation stage.

• Can I use more than one voucher code at a time?

  No - voucher codes cannot be used in conjunction with any other voucher codes offers.

• How do you maintain outdoor fabric?

  The key to keeping your outdoor furniture in tip top condition comes down to three things: 

   

  Regular inspections / cleans

  Checking your outdoor fabric after each use will help prevent missed stains from setting in. Always clean up spills as soon as they occur. We recommend overall cleans of your outdoor furniture about four times per year: once at the beginning of the summer, once at the end and a couple of times in between (depending on how much entertaining the furniture has seen). To make life easier, opt for stain-resistant fabric. 

   

  Cleaning correctly and according to instructions

  Never use bleach on your outdoor fabric as it can fade the material and destroy any protective coatings. For removable covers, always check the manufacturing instructions before throwing them in the washing machine.

   

  Protection from the elements

  To prolong the lifespan of your outdoor fabric keep it covered when not in use, or store removable elements inside. Outdoor fabric regularly exposed to rain, dew or frost will become mouldy and fabric in constant, direct sunlight will fade quickly.

• What kind of fabric is most durable?

  A durable fabric is one that stands the test of time when used regularly. Synthetic fabrics such as nylon, polyester or polyethylene are very durable. Of the natural fabrics, linen and silk are the strongest. 

  However, which fabric to choose depends on its use. Each fabric has different qualities and will suit different projects. For example, it’s unlikely that you’ll want to use silk for outdoor furniture, and if you want to reupholster furniture, you should specifically choose upholstery fabric. 

  The durability of a fabric usually depends on its weave (for natural fabrics) and its chemical properties (for synthetic fabrics). Our range of outdoor fabrics are specifically made with durability and water, stain and fade resistance in mind. 

  At Just Fabrics, the most durable fabrics are those with a high martindale score, listed under the product details for many of our fabrics. The martindale test is an abrasion rub test that measures fabrics’ durability.

• Can outdoor fabric be washed?

  How you wash your outdoor fabric depends on the fabric itself. Always read the product description first, but generally it's safe to wash outdoor fabrics on a 30 degree, gentle cycle. Always choose air drying over tumble drying.

  Avoid using bleach-based detergents as they can destroy the coating on outdoor fabrics. 

  For fabric covers that are difficult to remove, you can simply blot stains there and then. Use dish soap and water to gently sponge the stain (and if possible, apply this on both sides of the fabric). 

  Stretch fabrics when wet over their frames (particularly true for umbrella covers, deckchair or outdoor seating fabric) as this avoids shrinking.

• What’s the difference between fire resistant and fire retardant fabrics?

  The terms are used interchangeably but there is a slight difference. Fire resistant fabrics (also known as flame-resistant fabrics) don’t easily ignite and the fibres they’re comprised of melt before burning.

  Fire retardant fabrics on the other hand will ignite and burn, but will do so at a slower rate than regular fabrics and often self-extinguish.

• What does inherently fire retardant mean?

  Inherently fire retardant (IFR), or sometimes inherently flame retardant, refers to fabrics which naturally resist ignition and burning without having to be treated with chemicals. Our Balmoral Tartan Fabric is a good example of an IFR fabric. 

  Fire retardant fabric (FR) are those that have been treated with a chemical solution to reduce flammability. This is usually a coating over the fabric. Our Apperley fabric is a FR, treated fabric that comes in a variety of colours and, like all of our FR fabrics, has a non-treated version too.

• What if I want an upholstery fabric that isn’t fire retardant?

  Depending on what your fabric is for, it may require treatment to ensure it meets the relevant British Safety Standards. (This is usually true for upholstery projects.)

• What is the most fire resistant fabric?

  No fabric is entirely fire-resistant, but some are more fireproof than others. Wool is generally the most naturally fire resistant fabric. It’s difficult to ignite, and if it does ignite, it burns slower than other fabrics. Furthermore, the construction of the fibres helps extinguish the flames. 

  Our Cotswold Wool is fire resistant as well as being incredibly versatile and eco-friendly - being made from recycled wool fibres. Read our article here for more reasons to embrace wool fabric.

  Regular fabrics can also be made fire resistant or retardant with a chemical treatment that resists flames. Our Vintage Velvet fabric is one such chemically treated fabric.

• What is better, acrylic or cotton?

  When considering which is better, acrylic or cotton, it depends which qualities you are looking for with your fabric. Acrylic is an artificial yarn which makes a strong fabric that is warm, hard-wearing and has excellent heat-retaining properties. It doesn’t have much stretch which means garments will hold their shape over time and is easy to care for. As acrylic is man-made, it is cheaper than cotton which is a natural fabric. Cotton fabric is much softer and can handle coming into close contact with heat. This means it is better suited for kitchen and bathroom materials as well as soft bedding.

   

• What is curtain lining?

  Curtain lining is an extra layer of fabric that is attached to the back of a curtain. It can transform your curtains from something decorative to having a valued function. Choosing the correct lining for your curtains means you can block out unwanted light, save on energy costs by keeping a room insulated in the winter, and reduce outside noise.

  Curtain lining is also a popular choice if you want fuller looking curtains, to add shape, or by opting for a patterned lining you can ensure your curtains look as good from the outside as they do from inside. We stock a huge selection of curtain linings and our in-house team can help you when deciding what function you need your curtains to serve.

• What is blackout curtain lining?

  Blackout curtain lining is a popular choice for bedrooms as it is thicker than a standard curtain lining so blocks out light, as well as reducing some outside noise.

   

• What is Interlining?

  Interlining is an extra layer of fabric that sits between the outer fabric and the lining and is popular if you need to add weight to a lighter fabric so that the curtains hang better, and they are more effective at insulating a room. Interlining gives the curtains a full and luxurious look.

   

• What are thermal lined curtains?

  Thermal lined curtains are usually double or triple layers, and the thermal lining has heat retention properties. They can help keep out drafts from windows and are a popular choice for anyone looking for ways to reduce their heating bill in winter, but also keep hot air out by reflecting it outside in the warmer months. Because of their thickness, they are the most effective at muffling noise from outside if you live in a built-up area or near a busy road.

• How to make lined curtains?

• How do you remove mildew from curtain lining?

  It’s unfortunately common to get black or green spots of mould or mildew on your curtains if you regularly get condensation in a room. The most effective way of removing mould is by doing a spot clean. You will need to unhook your curtains and use a hard bristle brush on the affected area with a mild stain remover (avoid anything containing bleach which will stain). This might slightly discolour the curtains, so keep that in mind and don’t use more force to clean the fabric than necessary.

  You can take steps to reduce the chances of having mould by keeping the room warm and well ventilated, investing in a dehumidifier, and replacing single-glazed windows with double glazing.

• Can you wash lined curtains in the washing machine?

  Some curtains can be hand washed or dry cleaned but check the fabric first for care instructions, and don’t forget to also check care instructions for the linings as they are often a different fabric and can shrink when wet.

   

• What is a PVC tablecloth?

  PVC tablecloths are usually printed cotton fabrics with a PVC plastic finish and are also referred to as oilcloths. PVC tablecloths (or oilcloths) are very durable so can withstand heavy use and are a popular choice for kitchen, craft, play and outdoor tables. They are thick, rigid and wipe clean so protect the table from spills and scratch damage

   

• How do I remove creases from a PVC tablecloth?

  PVC tablecloths are rigid which means they can get creased if you leave them folded up and the lines are very hard to remove. If it’s a sunny day hang the tablecloth on a clothesline outside and the heat should cause the plastic to soften and the creases will drop out. It’s important to remember that as PVC tablecloths are plastic you can’t iron them directly as any excessive heat will melt and damage the tablecloth (and your iron). 

  Our PVC tablecloth fabric is sold by the metre and delivered on a roll specifically to avoid creasing.

• Can you iron a PVC tablecloth?

  If you do need to use your iron to remove the creases from your tablecloth, try lying it on an ironing board with a bath towel over the top. Lightly spritz the towel with water and blow with a hairdryer. The heat should warm the plastic allowing it to become more flexible and you can smooth out the creases. If this doesn’t work, put the iron on its lowest setting and you can iron over the damp towel, ensuring you test a corner first to ensure it’s not too hot and doesn’t melt the plastic beneath. 

   

• How do you clean and remove stains from a PVC tablecloth?

  One of the best features of PVC tablecloths or oilcloths is how easy they are to wipe clean. They will protect your table from stains and water damage, and a quick spritz with antibacterial spray means it’s easy to keep clean and hygienic. However, there are certain products that will stain your PVC tablecloth, such as ink, nail varnish, curry and lily pollen. Immediately wipe spills from the tablecloth to prevent or minimise staining.

   

• Can you put PVC tablecloths in the washing machine?

  Make sure you wipe the PVC tablecloth as soon as there is a spill to prevent or minimise any staining. You can’t put a PVC or oilcloth tablecloth in the washing machine because they are plastic, however we do sell acrylic PVC fabrics which can be washed at 30 degrees such as this bold geometric print or the versatile Linen Stripe design. Always check the washing instructions with all fabrics before you clean them.
