Roman blinds - How do you Work out the Rod Pocket

Step 1

If you want all the folds in your blind to be level when the blind is up, then it will depend on the finished length of the blind.

From the finished length of your blind, deduct the depth of the headrail and cord carriers, normally 5 to 6cm. What is left - is what goes into the folds.

Step 2

Divide by an odd number - 3, 5, 7, 9, etc. The answer, plus the depth of the headrail is the amount that will be hanging when the blind is up. If you are not happy, then rework the maths with another odd number.

So, If your blind has a drop of 119.5cm, less 5cm this gives 114.5cm for the folds. 114.5cm /(Divided by) 7 gives 16.35cm (Round up or down) 114.5cm /(Divided by) 5 gives 22.9cm (Round up or down)

So your blind could have two folds, 22.9cm apart, or three folds 16.35cm apart. 

Step 3

Measure this amount up from the bottom for the first pocket, then twice this amount for each subsequent pocket.

If you round up or down, this extra left over will be added in at the top of the blind by the headrail.
