How To Make Single Pleated Curtain Headings | JF Academy

Are you looking to learn how to pleat your curtain heading? Well look no further! We collaborated with local soft furnishings professional Louise, from The Cotswold Sewing School, to show you just this.

This simple 4 step guide on how to pleat curtains shows how easy it can be to create this style in your own home. This technique can also serve as a base to producing double and triple pinch pleat curtains. For this make, we used the Cheeky Monkey Linen fabric in the Multi colourway.

What You Will Need

For this step by step guide you will need:

  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Fabric
  • Scissors
  • Tape Measure
  • Sewing Machine
Step 1

Step 1

Firstly, measure and mark out the position of your pleat. Mark in a half gap size from the edge of your curtain, in this instance it'll be 5cm.

Step 2

Step 2

Next, measure out the pleat size, which is 15cm, from your first pin and put in another one as a marker.

Step 3

Step 3

Now, you need to bring the two pins together to form the pleat.

Step 4

Step 4

Finally, the base line of the pleat needs to be stitched. Take your curtain to your sewing machine and line up your needle with your two pins. Remove the pins and then you're ready to start sewing. Sew down to just beyond the bottom of the buckram and secure your stitch.
