Designs
In a city or contemporary scheme look for a smart roman blind in a stripe, this fabric could also be used as an upholstery fabric for a statement chair. Furniture could be glossy black, paint walls white and keep accessories to a minimum. This would create an urban contemporary scheme.
If you want a monochromatic scheme but favour a country style then look for toile de jouy designs. You can either keep this design for the curtain fabric or use the design as a wallpaper as well. In a bedroom use with crisp white bedlinen and pile the bed with cushions in made from toile de jouy and antique linen fabrics.
If you want to soften a monochromatic scheme then you could incorporate shades of grey into the colour scheme, for example this would be a good colour to use on the walls where white might seem to be too stark and clinical. However, there are also many shades of white so you could choose a softer white rather than a brilliant one.

Accessories
Try also adding a vibrant accent colour such as pillar box red, hot pink or purple. Use for cushions and accessories to pep up the look.
A statement wall in striking wallpaper would add a touch of glamour, look for a large scale pattern or a wide stripe.
Artwork could be added, if you can't find what you are looking for why not have a go and design your own. Buy a large blank canvas and some black paint and paint your own bespoke piece of art.

Chic look
These schemes are suitable for any room in the house but are ideally suited to dining rooms as they are the ideal place to add a sense of drama, especially if a vivid accent colour is also introduced.
There are lots of different ways of introducing a monochrome colour scheme into your home if you don't feel like having a complete room in these colours then start by introducing small touches such as cushions, candles or vases.
