Wool fabric for warmth and cosiness
Our favourite fabric material is wool. Wool is a natural product and comes in many shades and patterns. One of the most popular patterns for wool fabric is a tartan or plaid design, these are ideal for creating a highland scheme. As wool is inherently fire retardant it makes a great upholstery fabric but can also be used successfully as a curtain fabric. Wool fabric will bring a lovely cosy feel to your home.
Do you want a relaxed scheme? Then use linen fabric
In second place, linen. This is a great fabric material particularly if you are looking for a relaxed and natural look in your home. Linen fabric is available in different weights, some are suitable for loose covers and upholstery. Faded linen prints are beautiful and look great in a shabby chic or country style home. 100% linen can be prone to creasing but this adds to the laid back look that linen fabric creates but not the best choice if you are looking for a pristine and crisp look.
Easy to care for cotton fabric
Our third choice is cotton fabric. One of the most popular fabrics in the world, this natural product is reasonably priced and easy to use. It comes in a wide variety of colours and designs, including plain fabric, striped fabric and many different prints.
Some cottons are washable making them an ideal choice for areas where you may need to wash your curtains or cushions for example in kitchens or children's bedrooms.313
Velvet and chenille fabric for an extravagant look
Next on our list are velvet and chenille fabrics. These are great for adding a touch of luxury to your interiors. Many velvets and chenilles can be used as upholstery fabrics where they will bring a touch of sophistication to your scheme. Velvet and chenille fabrics are also suitable for curtains but, due to their weight and texture, they are best suited to large windows and full length curtains. You need to ensure that your curtain pole or track will hold the weight especially if you are also having them interlined.
If you want to add a touch of luxury use silk fabric
In fifth place we've chosen silk fabric. This luxurious fabric material will add a sense of opulence to your scheme. Silk is great to use as a curtain fabric and when interlined it will drape beautifully and give a sumptuous look. As silk is a natural fabric you may find some imperfections in the weave (called slubs), these are not defects but are inherent properties of the fabric and add to the character of it.
