How to use purple
Purple fabrics tone well with the current neutral trend for grey. Pantone’s strong ultra-violet is a strong feminine purple that would be perfect for a teenage girl’s space, a move on from pink, with undertones of strength, femininity and an outspoken nature. For a strong ultra violet tone in your décor, look no further than the Linoso in petunia fabric.
What to pair purple with
If the strength of Ultra violet is too much for you then Dulux's colour of the year is Heartwood a softer purple colour with lavender and pink tones. Named after the warm tones of wood and tactile nature of leather, Heartwood tones well with blues for calm rooms, for warmth and elegance you could use it with earthy tones, greys and blues. To make a comforting space it works well with blush pinks and cocoas. Balmoral in Rye is a subtle check wool fabric with a natural beige background for a nod to the purple trend. Jedburgh in damson is a soft fabric with a geometric self-pattern for a cream and purple mix.
Purple accents
Purple accents would make a statement against a grey backdrop such as cushions on a grey sofa. A purple tablecloth would look fantastic with brass details, such as cutlery or candlesticks. If you use brass fittings in your kitchen then using purple in your blinds, curtains or upholstery would form a rich look.
Pearlized tones and metallics
Earlier in the 2017 Pantone were predicting that design trends would be around colours with a pearlized and translucent glow. We are certainly seeing this in fabrics in warm, pearlized metallic lilacs and purples. Velvets add a metallic sheen and Zephyr in violet or Mimosa in fig is a perfect fabric to achieve the pearlized glow. Silks and faux silks also add the pearlized glow and Polo fabric in lavender would look great made into curtains.
