Retro interiors using flamingo fabric

If you are creating a retro look then introducing flamingo fabric into your scheme will add a touch of fun!

Retro bathroom

Bold designs like the Longleat fabric are the ideal choice if you are designing a retro style bathroom. Use this quirky fabric for a blind. For a completely retro feel to your bathroom look for a matching wallpaper - make sure that it is one that can withstand the hot steamy conditions of a bathroom. To add a contemporary look use a white bathroom suite and to finish the scheme add fuchsia pink towels.

Little girls will love the playful Flamingos Pink fabric and this design would be perfect for curtains. You could co-ordinate this fabric with a striped fabric also in pastel shades and use for cushions. Walls could be painted in a pale pink or neutral emulsion. Look for flamingo accessories - there are lots around. Keep furniture light and bright to bring an airy feel to the room.

Mid-century kitsch

All things kitsch are very popular at the moment from pineapples to flamingos! Mid-century furniture is also making a comeback and is becoming more difficult to find at reasonable prices. Classic designs such as Ercol are very sought after. Check out antique and collectible fairs and shops and you may be lucky enough to find an original. Geometric fabric is a key trend when creating this scheme and would look great made into curtains or blinds. Use a patterned fabric for cushions and add art work in the pop art style.

If you want a new look retro style kitchen on a budget then replace your cabinet doors with curtains made from eye-catching fabric. For your flooring use black and white tiles or a vinyl tile effect flooring. Look for hot pink accessories such as a tea caddy and sugar container. Select a contrasting fabric for roman blinds and finish with tea towels in co-ordinating colours. There are authentic kitchen cabinets available from online auction sites which would look good in this style of kitchen.

To complete the retro look scour second hand shops and antique salerooms for genuine pieces such as crockery and glassware or search home style shops for good reproduction items.  In particular look out for pineapple ice buckets, china flying ducks and pink flamingos!  Add cushions in co-ordinating or plain fabrics to complete your scheme.
