What curtains go with Grey walls?

Here is our guide to choosing fabric for curtains that go with grey walls.

The colour grey is a popular neutral colour in interiors especially for walls and furniture. But we don’t always want everything grey in a room and curtains or blinds can be a good way to inject another colour or pattern to your room scheme. Grey is a popular neutral as it can be used to create a warm or cool scheme and works equally well in a contemporary or country home. Here is our guide to choosing fabric for curtains that go with grey walls.

Floral Fabrics

Floral Fabrics

Use floral fabrics for a soft sophisticated country style room. Floral fabrics using pink, lilacs and purples will tone well with grey walls or upholstery. The Carneum in sorbet from Voyage Decoration has a floral print in purples and lilacs on a soft grey back cloth.

Print fabrics

If you have a country style room, then polka dots or country animal prints such as those with repeating prints of bees, chickens or ducks, will make a country scheme feel up to date.

Velvet fabrics

Velvet fabrics

There has been a trend towards dark and moody interiors with dark grey walls such as ones that use Farrow and Ball’s Downpipe. If you want a sumptuous rich dramatic feel to your room, then velvet fabrics for your curtains would look beautiful against a dark grey backdrop. The midnight colourway of the jf velvet or a mustard yellow such as the gold would make stunning floor length curtains and accent cushions.

Graphic Fabrics

If you have a contemporary home, then teeming grey walls with graphic print fabrics such as stripes or geometrics will bring a fresh edge to your scheme. The cube fabric is in mustard and grey or black and grey. Ziggy fabric has a large print of zigzags in a range of colours. Our Inca fabric comes in an ethnic style pattern in pewter, linen or denim colours. We also have a grey and yellow stripe fabric called Malibu.

Coloured Plain fabrics

Coloured Plain fabrics

If your room is feeling very grey with grey walls, furniture and flooring then injecting a bright colour will make a dramatic statement. Using bright yellow such as our Cotswold Chunkylinen in yellow for your cushions or curtains will bring a drop of sunshine to a room that uses lots of grey.

Grey also works well with a mustard yellow for an injection of colour that is gentler than a bright yellow. It can be used for a vintage or retro feel, perhaps if you have mid-century furniture

Pink and grey is a classic colour combination. Pink can be very feminine and grey dull, so the pairing of the two makes a sophisticated blend and they neutralise the extreme effects of each other. You could use a pink linen or velvet.
